Singles:Portraits

Shirley Anderson is listening intently to a much too familiar story about one of the homeless men she hadn't seen in awhile, " Some people don't want to take responsibility. He's still sleeping over there near the park. He's a loner, he won't tell anybody where his camp is, and he says he always carries a knife too. "Shirley shakes her head sadly in amazement, " You never know what will set them off, do you?" Every Friday night Shirley parks beneath Higgins Bridge with a hot dinner prepared and a truck full of clothing for those in need and offers what she sums up as, "Soup, sandwiches, and a kind word."
